Got a weird ophthalmic issue? Use the Simple Ophthalmic Issue Exam (SOPHIE) to get a provisional diagnosis. If you woke up one morning and your eye is red, painful, or swollen, simply answer a couple of questions and this program will help you get a general idea of what the diagnosis and treatment could be.
The goal was to keep the interface simple and provide mostly yes/no questions to for easy decision-making. Most of the work is done behind the scenes. Additionally, the program does not require an active Internet connection just in case you wake up with a red eye in the middle of a camping trip.
This program was developed by an optometrist who has experience treating various anterior segment diseases. New optometrists and optometry students will find this tool extremely useful when narrowing down potential diagnoses. Although the program was created by an eye care provider, many conditions present differently so the program’s accuracy is not guaranteed.
